Being a South Florida native I am well aware of the power of Lilly Pulitzer. Famous for her Palm Beach tropical prints, Floridians are able to wear her styles year round. But having a closet full of Lilly has one down side and that is when we travel to locations that have a real fall and winter, it can be hard to style our Palm Beach style into a cold winter setting.
So, the big question is how can we bring our love of Lilly into the fall and winter months without looking overly tropical? The key is layering! Just because it's winter doesn't mean we have to dress in dull colors, so I like to add pops of Lilly into my outfit. For example, I paired my Elsa top (one of Lilly"s staple blouses) with a bright sweater, you can also pair with more natural tones such as white, tans, grays and navy blues.
When it comes to Lilly's amazing dresses, you can pair them with a long sweater tunic so the bold pattern sticks out the bottom and a neutral pair of thigh high boots. This brings the look more into fall or early spring.
When bringing such a Floridian pattern into the fall months, remember to let 50% or less of the pattern show so it is not an overwhelming summer style. Keep in mind the neutral tones like caramels and sandy tans that will help tie in with all of Lilly's patterns and keep you warm.
